This may surprise you, but the U.S. is home to some of the most haunted places in the world. Spread throughout the country are locations that tell gruesome tales of death and the paranormal. From creaky old mansions to war-torn battlefields, here are the eight most haunted spots in America.
1. Eastern State Penitentiary
This 1829 castle-like prison in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was the first prison to instill solitary confinement to their prisoners. The prisoners would eat, sleep, workout, and live completely alone. It is because of this, that people believe the inmates became mentally ill. In 1971 it became abandoned and ever since, there have been reports of paranormal activity taking place.
2. The Amityville House
In the upscale suburban area of Long Island, New York, lies a house at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville. It was here, where 23-year-old Ronald DeFeo, Jr. shot and killed his parents and four younger siblings on November 14, 1974.
